The surface matters more than anything

A pool deck is walked on barefoot, soaked daily and baked in the sun. Travertine stays remarkably cool and has a natural texture that grips wet feet. Shell stone does the same with a coastal look. Textured porcelain is the most stain-resistant choice and comes in wood, stone and concrete looks. Standard concrete pavers work too and cost less, and lighter colors keep them cooler. We bring samples and set them in the sun so you can feel the difference.

Coping, drainage and the details that fail first

Most pool-deck failures happen at the coping and at low spots that hold water. We cut and set coping to the shape of the pool with a proper overhang and a sealed joint, pitch the deck away from the water so it dries in minutes, and add channel drains where the yard would otherwise send water back toward the pool. Around salt pools we use materials and sealers that shrug off the salt.

Replacing an old concrete deck

If your concrete deck is cracked, stained or just hot, we can overlay it with thin pavers when the slab is sound, or remove it entirely and build a new base. Removal gives you the option to change the shape of the deck, add a dining or grill area, and fix drainage problems the old slab was hiding.

Working around rentals and families

On vacation-rental homes we schedule between bookings and finish in one continuous run. On family homes we keep the pool usable as long as possible and keep the site safe with fencing while the deck is open. Most decks finish in a week; large decks with kitchens and walls take longer, and we tell you the schedule before we start.

Beyond the deck

The best pool areas connect the water to the rest of the yard: a paver path to the outdoor kitchen, a seat wall along the edge, turf where the kids play, lighting for evenings. We design the whole space so it reads as one project.
